To do so, open Windows Defender Security Center, click App & browser control and choose Warn for SmartScreen for Microsoft Edge.
You'll be able to click through the warning and override SmartScreen's concerns and download the file. In Windows Defender, you can also change Edge's SmartScreen to merely warn you when you are about to download a file it deems suspicious instead of it outright blocking it. And, of course, only turn it off to download files you know to be safe. With SmartScreen off, you are on your own about which files to download in Edge, but I would urge you to go back and toggle SmartScreen on when you have finished downloading your file.
Here's how to toggle SmartScreen off and on in Edge: You can disable SmartScreen in the Windows Defender Security Center app in total or just for Edge, but for the latter it's faster to do so right within Edge itself, particularly if you are already using Edge. I don't recommend turning SmartScreen off completely because it is helpful in preventing you from downloading a malicious file or app, but you can disable it in Microsoft's Edge browser if you want to override its protection and go ahead and download a file it doesn't recognize. On some occasions, however, you may find SmartScreen overstepping its bounds and blocking you from downloading a file you know to be safe. Navigate to the folder where you want to save future downloads, and click the button. In the Downloads section, click the Change button to the right of Location. On the left side of the window, under the Settings section, click the Downloads tab. Go to Settings > System > Put inactive tabs to sleep after the specified amount of time and choose a time between 5 minutes and 12 hours. One of the ways Windows Defender keeps your computer safe from internet evils is by employing its SmartScreen tool to keep you from downloading potentially harmful files or visiting malicious sites. In the upper-right corner of the window, click the icon.
With the sleeping tabs feature, you can tell the browser to stop using system resources on apps that have been inactive for a set amount of time.
Having too many tabs open in a browser can slow things down, though.
The browser will check for updates, install them, and ask you to restart.
If you don't see the icon, click the three-dot icon on the top right and select Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge. Edge should display an icon on the top left click it to see your tabs in a left-hand window. The site should now appear on your Taskbar as if it were an app.Īre your browser tabs a disorganized mess? Microsoft just rolled out a vertical tabs feature that allows you see open tabs in a list format. To do this, click the Settings icon and move to More Tools > Pin to Taskbar. Now the website is available to you as soon as you log into Windows. Instead of going through the hassle of opening Edge each time you want to access the page, save it to the Windows Taskbar instead. Let's say there's a web page you frequently visit. You can create new collections, edit existing collections, delete individual items in a collection, and delete an entire collection.
The next time you want to access one of your collections, go to the Collections pane and select the one you wish to view, or just click the Collections icon on the toolbar. You can also open all the content in the collection or copy it to the clipboard using this settings menu. These collections can then be sent to Excel, Word, OneNote, or Pinterest by clicking the ellipsis icon and choosing a destination. Saving highlighted text and images can be done by dragging the selection to the Collections pane.Ĭlick the Add Note icon to type a note or add a description for this collection. If you want to save a web page, first open it in the browser, then click the Add current page link to save it in the collection. You can start a new collection by navigating to Settings > Collection, or clicking the Collections icon in the menu bar. This can be helpful if you’re conducting research or looking for specific information and want to gather all related content.
